Singers such as Gavin James, Lea Hart and Saibh Skelly have been announced for Focus Ireland’s Big Busk this Friday (April 12). Today FM and Focus Ireland have teamed up for the return of the Big Busk, which hopes to raise money for the homelessness charity during the worst homelessness crisis in the country’s history. The Big Busk will be held at several locations nationwide throughout the day at Marina Market Cork, Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley shopping centres Dublin, MacDonagh Junction shopping centre Kilkenny, Crescent Shopping Centre Limerick, and the Canopy in Sligo. Musicians, choirs and community groups around Ireland are also encouraged to host their own Big Busk events. This year, the Big Busk has a Super Focused Setlist — which features 20 songs that were requested by people who have previously been homeless, as well as contributions from Focus Ireland staff. Among these buskers is Saibh Skelly, who has been busking on the streets of Dublin since she was 15 and has noticed the rise of homelessness in the city throughout her career. Also participating in the big busk is Today FM’s David Moore, who will be hosting the Music Master Show — where Gavin James and Erica Cody will test their music knowledge against each other. Lea Hart will also perform the Amy Winehouse hit Valerie on The Last Word with Matt Cooper. Over €600,000 has been raised for Focus Ireland in The Big Busk, which is now in its third year. The Department of Housing confirmed earlier this month that 13,841 people are homeless, including 4,170 children.
